SPORTS INJURIES ΑND TREATMENΤ Sports injuries are injuries that occur in athletic activities. They can result from acute trauma, or from overuse of a particular body part Traumatic injuries Overuse Contusion or bruise Runner's Knee Strain traumg to muscle Tennis Elbow Sprain injury in joint Tendinosis Wound abrasion Lower Back Pain Bone Fracture Shoulder Injury Head Injury Rib Fracture 1- A Treat at home with PRICE 1. Protection - protect the affected area from further injury - for example, by using a support. 2. Rest - avoid exercise and reduce your daily physical activity. 3. Ice - apply an ice pack to the affected area for 10-30 minutes. 4. Compression – use elastic compression bandages to limit swelling. 5. Elevation - keep the injured leg, knee, arm, elbow or wrist raised above the level of the heart. Additional Treatment 1. Pain relief - Painkillers, such as paracetamol can be used to help ease the pain. 2. Immobilization - Immobilization helps prevent further damage by reducing movement. It also reduces pain, muscle swelling and muscle spasm. 3. Corticosteroid injections - can usually be given once every three to six months. 4. Massage - to speed up the recovery process. 5.
