Those who go to school, go because their families pay for it. These families spend up to 40% of their annual income on educational fees. That's a huge burden for poor families." Jacky Lumarque, Rector University Quisquaya, Port-au-Price, Haiti No money for school materials, fees and uniforms are an obstacle. In Haiti, 80% live under the poverty line. Only 50% of Haiti's children go to primary school, only 20% attend secondary school. ILLITERATE PARENTS Illiterate and less educated parents often place less value in the education of their children. The lack of an encouraging learning environment nor parental support negatively influences children's performance in school.
