G4S and Westfield mentions soared on the back of two key stories for the Olympics helping them to become two out of ten of the most mentioned sponsors. Westfield GAS Westield Coca Cola BRITISH Heathrow SAMSUNG Ou) BT adidas AIRWAYS 17th & 19th July: G4S G4S shot from 13th to 1st in the sponsors league table, as news broke that it would fail to provide the 10,000 security staff it was contracted to for the Olympics. 24th July: Westfield Westfield, by comparison, scored significantly positive coverage by teaming up with Adidas to locate its TakeTheStage photobooth in Westfield's Stratford shopping mall, next to the Olympic Park. The real catalyst was the surprise of David Beckham in the photo booth that caused mentions to rocket. Joining forces for bigger results Adidas' #takethestage campaign has kept it riding high among mentions of Olympic sponsors. Adidas and Westfield got a massive boost in mentions through the power that is Brand Beckham, Westfield & Adidas ~360 mentions More than half of Westfield and Adidas buzz included mentions of Beckham, with more than a third appearing on social news channels, suggesting a PR push 35% News 6% Blogs Other Forums 53% Twitter Beckham & Adidas -2286 mentions 2% 4% Forums Blogs Other In contrast, mentions of Beckham and Adidas 86% were dominated by Twitter as people tweeted the News news, despite the man himself not having an official Twitter account. Twitter The Twitter Olympics Total tweets Nike vs. Adidas #takethestage 5826 #findgreatness #makeitcount 683 Nike has fought to steal Adidas' thunder as an Olympics sponsor, with its MakeltCount and FindYourGreatness campaigns. Yet, despite much talk around how good Nike's ambush marketing has been, the strength of its hashtag campaigns has not matched that of Adidas' long-running and well known 24th July - #takethestage 596 tweets adidas 24th July - #findgreatness 392 tweets NIKE #takethestage. 30th July-#makeitcount 71 tweets NIKE Adidas'hashtag continues to trend strongly, while Nike's #findgreatness spiked during the day of the Olympics Opening Ceremony, but has failed to capture tweeters'imagination in the way that #takethestage has managed to. Adidas' position as a sponsor has been a particular advantage against Nike on social, with its hashtag spiking as it offered up Olympic-related prizes for retweets, including signed merchandise from David Beckham and Britain's first medallist in London 2012, Lizzie Armistead.
