The Simple Staging Guide for Home Decor

THE SIMPLE STAGING GUIDE FOR HOME DECOR Whether you are preparing your home for sale or getting your home ready for out of town relatives, these tips will have your home looking beautiful, polished, and inviting for any occasion. REMOVE THE CLUTTER •Remove things from view and go with a more minimalistic approach. • Follow the general rule – for each thing you bring in, two things must be removed. BRIGHTEN AREAS UP WITH LIGHT 2 • Aim for 100 watts of light for ever 50 square feet and do not underestimate the power of natural light. • Make sure there are 3 types of lighting in a room: AMBIENT TASK ACCENT REPURPOSE ROOMS 3 • Take rooms that accumulate junk and repurpose them with a couple of new furniture pieces and some new paint. • Turn a junk room into a craft center or a basement into a yoga studio. VARY WALL HANGINGS 4 • Abandon the invisible highline that most use to hang art and pictures. • Try different groupings and patterns to make the art stand out and show off the space. BRING NATURE INSIDE • Use nature as an inspiration for accessorizing or selecting neutral paint colors. • Use fresh cut flowers to accent your home in vases that match your décor. GROUP IN THREES 6. • Odd numbers are preferable when grouping accessories. • Group accessories by color, shape or texture. GIVE AREAS A FACE LIFT 7 • If you cannot afford new cabinets, get new doors and drawer fronts. • Paint the room to match the new faces and add new hardware. ADD SOME COLOR 8. • Paint a room in a neutral color to help tone down any dated finishes in the space. - Try warm tans, honeys, and soft blue-greens. Paint adjacent rooms the same color in order to make the space look bigger. • The use of deep tones in a powder room, dinning room or bedroom makes it feel warm and inviting. BE AWARE OF LAYOUT 9. • Float furniture away from walls to open up the room and make it look bigger. • Position items into cozy conversational groups paying close attention to the traffic flow of the room. CLEAN 10 • Cleaning a space can really help you see what changes need to be made. • Clutter is also minimized with a thorough room cleaning.
