Surprisingly, 53% of Americans 65 and older use the internet. Of that 53%, 70% use it on a typical day. Individuals 47-65 typically spend 27 hours a week on the internet. And that’s not just at their grandkid’s house. 48% of seniors 65 and older own a desktop computer, and 63% of those 50-64 years of age own a desktop. Social media is a huge draw for seniors, making connecting with friends and family easy. 27.4 million adults 55 and over use social networking to keep up with their loved ones. That means that one in three seniors use social media. Additionally, this age group does a lot of their shopping online. 59% of seniors 50 and up have made a purchase online in the last three months, and their age group has spent $7 billion annually online. They also use the internet to book travel. 80% of luxury travel is booked online by seniors.
