There have been many impressive horses that have taken part in the Grand National over the years. The most prolific being ‘Manifesto’ which ran a total of 8 times between the years of 1895 and 1904. Very impressive indeed.
An interesting fact to point out is that ‘Moiffa’ won the National in 1904 after having been shipwrecked for a whole year prior to this when traveling from New Zealand to Liverpool. He definitely had the luck of the Irish as he turned up on an outcrop just south of the emerald isle. Without doubt the most successful horse ever was ‘Red Rum’. He was also the most famous too. This legend won the Grand National a total of three times. The only times he didn’t win, he came home in second place. Red Rum is buried by the winning post at Aintree. A horse that truly captured the heart of the nation.
