Right to Education

RIGHT TO EDUCATION The right to education act (RTE) was introduced in 2009 to ensure widespread access to education. 6-14 Every child of the age 6 to 14 years shall have a right to free and compulsory education in a neighbourhood school till the completion of elementary education. The documents required for admission can be procured from an Area Tahsildar and are as follows: YEARS Age proof • Address proof • Income / Community certificate A minimum of 25% free seats for children from: Economically weaker sections (EWS): child belonging to parents/guardians whose annual income is lower than Rs. 2 lakhs Project Knock Knock aims to bridge the gap between the economically weaker sections and provision of wholesome education by sensitising as many people about their rights. 25% Disadvantaged groups: SC / ST / OBC / orphan / HIV affected / transgender / child of We have brought together over 120 volunteers who have approached target communities across Chennai to sensitise, spread awareness and urge the EWS families to a scavenger FREE SEATS in the entry level class of all private unaided non-minority schools within 1-3 km distance from where the child resides. make full use of this admission window. No child shall be liable to pay any kind of fee, charges or expenses which may prevent him or her from pursuing and completing elementary education. As an educated citizen, you can speak to your house help/drivers/watchmen/any EWS communities around your area and educate them about their right. If interested, they can call any of our helpline numbers and we will try our best to get their child admitted.
