REVEALED: WHAT RECRUITERS REALLY WANT IN YOUR CV Looking for the inside scoop on exactly what recruiters are looking for? Thought so. That's why we've surveyed hundreds of hiring managers and recruiters nationwide to ask them for their biggest jobseeker application turn-ons and turn-offs. Most important thing on a CV: (2 (3 4) # 1 A logical order for presentation. #2 Formatting. #3 Length. > The perfect CV is: abcdefghi jklmnopar stuvwxyz 143 # 1 Word document. # 2 Easy-to-read font. #3 2-3 pages in length. TOP TIP: education Make your CV relevant. If you're applying for a graduate role, state your education first. If experience is highlighted as a necessity, feature it on the first page of your CV. experience Biggest turn-off for recruiters in an application: # 1 Poor spelling & grammar "Always do the write thing." # 2 Candidate lacking required qualifications "My History course will make me good Gas Engineer." #3 Poor "I have Always been good formatting at formatting documents." # 4 "This job is the right position and location, and will let me use my skills." Application too generic I not tailored to the role # 5 No cover letter attached to application TOP TIP: ... Re-read your CV. Read it again. And, more importantly, ask a friend or family member to read it. You may be skipping over an error or missing a mistake without even knowing it. > Top phrases to avoid on your CV: "I enjoy socialising with friends" "Good team player - good working in a team or as an individual" "I enjoy going to the cinema and long walks on the beach" TOP TIP: Quantify every statement you can with a real example. For instance, if the employer's looking for a strong team player, saying 'demonstrated excellent team-working skills when doing x project' is far more effective than 'works well in a team! "Increased efficiency by 30% whilst demonstrating excellent team working skills throughout data integrity project" > Cover letters are just as important.
