Reshaping our Energy Future

open energi Reshaping our energy future with Dynamic Demand li lili il il lili il il liii AAan il il LACKOUT We all know a peak in electricity But a surge in electricity supply can be equally problematic. demand could cause a blackout... For instance, everyone switching their kettles on at once when a programme ends. Like on a sunny, windy day when lots of solar and wind energy is captured. This is because electricity can't be stored, so it must be balanced in real time. coal gas li lili il il BiE il il ilii AAAH il ilil Peak demand is currently met by firing reserve power plants in short bursts. li li li IL I il lilili H lili li 8 Supply surges can be resolved by ramping production down or paying wind farms to switch off. The old energy economy is expensive, insecure and dirty. There's an affordable, secure and clean alternative. In peak demand... In a supply surge... A business with energy-intensive equipment can sell energy back to the grid for a few minutes, without its equipment performance being affected. At times of over-supply, energy-intensive equipment can be switched on to use power now instead of later, effectively storing energy. While a million people might switch on their kettles, others may not need electricity at that moment. At times when lots of energy is being captured, it can be used to power things that aren't time sensitive. il il iiG i il il iii AAA il il Supermarket This excess energy could power water pumps, topping up tanks that will eventually need filling anyway. coal A supermarket could divert the electricity from its fridges back to the grid for those few minutes, with no impact on temperature. gas The system is balanced between those demanding onergy and those who can spare it momentarily. Instead of wasting energy we can't store, it's used now for something that would otherwise demand enorgy later. Reserve power plants are no longer neoded. Businesses make money from their cost base. Our energy future is more secure. The UK reduces its carbon footprint. Dynamic Demand can be used across a wide range of commercial assets. 1 니 Water supply Metal foundries Commercial property Mining Sustainable energy used to be viewed as a cost to the system, businesses and ultimately productivity. Dynamic Demand means a cheaper, more reliable and cleaner energy future and a £1 billion prize for businesses. ce XXXXX XXXXX (●
