The 'Rents vs Rent

THE 'RENTS O RENT More young adults are living with their parents now than ever before, and far fewer are getting married. Those who aren't living with family are choosing other independent living arrangements like sharing housing with roommates. Here's a chart that shows how the living arrangements of young adults has changed since the '60s: 1968 1981 2007 2012 56% 43% 32% 36% 27% Living at home, with parent(s) 27% 31% 32% 26% Independent living arrangement 23% 14% Married/Head of the household 8% 7% 6% 8% Living alone 4% 7% 7% 3% 4% Living with other kin Millennial males (40%) were much more likely to be living with their parents than were millennial females (32%). Those between ages 18 and 24 (56%) are significantly more likely to be living with their parents than those aged 25 to 31 (16%). Millennials in the Northeast were much more likely to be living (44%) with their parents than were those living in other parts of the country. This is likely because Northeastern millennials were more likely to be enrolled in college and because of higher housing costs in that region, according to the Pew report.
