Red Letter Days, Unwanted Christmas Gifts: The Usual Suspects

Are you guilty of buying unwanted Christmas presents? Meet the usual suspects... Convenience Giver The Convenience Giver never asks anyone what they want. Instead, they just get what they think is best. All from the same shop, just The Recycler The Show-off Usually an Auntie. Called Maureen or something. They hand out all the unwanted presents they received themselves. Cheap and efficient. Except they're still just presents no-one wants. The Slacker Usually a brother. Leaves present buying 'til the very last minute. Has been known to call you at 8pm on Christmas Eve, flustered and panicked, to ask you directly what you want before all the shops close. The Creative The Creative always gives something handmade. Like a knitted scarf or a cushion cover. These presents always leave you with a sinking feeling because although you don't want The Show-off uses the size and value of the gift they get you as a status symbol. It doesn't matter to them whether you wanted it or not. This is usually a family friend. And your Dad doesn't like him. The Self-pleaser The Self-pleaser is very sneaky. Usually a girlfriend. She'll buy her boyfriend a shirt she wants him to wear. Also been known to give a bottle of wine, then drink most of it themselves. The Planner The Planner is so well organised that they've had Christmas covered for months, collecting gifts back in Feb. They've even been known to hoard presents for years so they're never caught short. We all know a planner. The Delegator The Delegator made it into our line-up by the skin of their teeth. They aren't a real gift giver. Instead they leave all responsibility to someone else, only to take the credit on Christmas Day. They are often boyfriends of family members. because it's convenient. them, you know you won't be able to bring yourself to sell them on ebay. They're probably your mother-in-law.
