Real Problem Solved in Virtual Reality

REAL PROBLEMS solved in VIRTUAL REALITY VIRTUAL REALITY SYSTEMS are designed to mimic every aspect of the world around us. They attempt to replicate the sensory information normally received by our brain. They are called "immersive" because they are intended to make you feel immersed in the false reality. It is often associated with games and entertainment. But it is also starting to be recognized as a solution to some very real problems. AEC INDUSTRY VR for Architectural Designs It is always critical for an architect to effectively communicate their design to their client. Making sure that nothing is lost to interpretation. zuluɔo Today, BIM models can be converted into VR format. Then, using VR hardware like the Oculus Rift, allow the client to experience the design, not just look at drawings. Architects can also use VR to identify flaws not seen on plans - this saves both time and money for everyone involved. VR for Construction Jobsite Safety Virtual reality and Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVS) or drones are helping construction companies lessen potential safety risks. Both technologies allow for more efficient identification of structural problems, less workers in cages and hamesses and realtime communication between workers and managers (with the drone as the video phone). VR and drones improve a safety manager's efficiency by an estimated 50 percent. RESEARCH KeckCAVES The W. M. Keck Center for Active Visualization in the Earth Sciences (KeckCAVES) is a joint project between the UC Davis Department of Geology, IDAV, and the UC Davis Computational Science and Engineering Center (CSE). This is an on-going project that seeks to bring a state-of-the-art immersive visualization facility to Earth science researchers. Using KeckCAVES, scientists can now explore various facets of the planet without the long walks and hikes. MEDICINE DIPLOPIA Diplopia is a virtual reality game designed for people with amblyopia (lazy eye) as well as strabismus (crossed eye). The company has changed its name to Vivid Vision and the software to Vivid Vision for Amblyopia. The strategies of the game have been used in treatments that have been shown to be up to 6 times more effective than patching which is the typical treatment. FITNESS Project Nourished Project Nourished is a virtual reality experiment that lets you eat anything you want without worrying about calories or allergies. It uses low calorie food and aromatic diffusers to mimic your favorite dish. If the experiment proves successful, the project will pioneer a whole new way of eating. It was said to be inspired by a scene in the film Hook in which Peter Pan leams to use his imagination to see food on a table that does not exist in reality. JOURNALISM From the University of Southern California's Interactive Media Lab, this project is being billed as "immersive journalism". Its goal is to place virtual visitors in the shoes of a Syrian citizen caught in the middle of the civil war. Syria is considered as the most dangerous country in the world to be a reporter. Virtual reality is currently the safest way to tell stories to people outside Syria. EDUCATION VR for Surgical training A research project funded by the MOVEO Foundation improve surgical training by immersing the trainee into a recorded 3D movie of a real surgery. The virtual reality enables the trainee to become an avatar of the surgeon, and to be in the operating theater as if they were the surgeon. OTHERS Project Elysium Probably the most ambitious and potentially the most controversial, this project aims to hring back dead people in virtual reality. Project Elysium was their official entry to the Oculus' Mobile VR Jam 2015. The idea behind this project surfaced when the developers, Steve Koutsouliotas and Nick Stavrou, both lost their fathers and needed some help in dealing with their loss.
