Raksha Bandhan

RAKSHA BANDHAN Rakhi is basically a sacred thread of protection embellished with the love and affection of a sister for her brother. Festival celebrated on the Sharvan Poornima ( full moon day ) of the Sharvan month. Mythical History of Raksha Bandhan Inder Deva Devas once battled with danavas for 12 years. However, Devas lost. So, they decided to fight again. This time 12 years battle with Indrani tied a Raksha Sutree on Inder's wrist and Devas won the battle. danavas Santoshi Maa Ridhi Lord Ganesha had two sons, Shubh and Labh. On the occasion of Rakhi, Ganesh's sister tied Rakhi to lord Ganesh. Sidhi Ganesh conceded the demand and Santoshi Maawas created by Ridhi and Sidhi. Krishna and Draupadi Draupadi Once Draupadi had torn a strip of her sari and tied it around wrist of Lord Krishna to stop bleeding from a battle field wound. Lord Krishna declared Draupadi to be his sister. Sent Rakhi to Humayun The Auspicious Full Moon In Northern India, Rakhi Purnima is called Kajri Purnima (Kajri Navami), when wheat or barley is sown and Goddess Bhagwati is worshipped. In Western states, the festival is called Nariyal Purnima or The Coconut Full Moon. Nariyal Purnima Other Names of Raksha Bandhan RAKSHA BADHAN is also pronounced with other names like: Pap Nashak - The destroyer of sins • Vish Tarak - The destroyer of venom Punya Pradayak - The bestower of boons Other Festivals On This Day 1. Balarama Jayanti Lord Balarama was born on this day. So, the day of Raksha Badhan is also celebrated as Balarama Jayanti. 2. Raksha Bandhan celebration in Nepal Raksha Bandhan is celebrated as Shravan Purnima in Nepal. It is also known as Janai Purnima. Janai is changed on this day in Brahmins and Kashtriya families. Janai is sacred thread. 3. Gamha Purnima In Odisha, Raksha Bandhan is celebrated as Gamha Purnima. On this occasion, Cows and Bullocks are devorated in different ways and worshipped. 4. Pavitropana It is celebrated in the parts of Gujarat. People worship of Lord Shiva on this day. It is believed that whoever, prays on this auspicious day, all his past sins are forgiven. 5. Jhulan Purnima Jhulan Purnima also known as Poonal/ Jandhya/Janyu Poornima. Julan Purnima is celebrated in West Bengal. People on this day perform pooja of Lord Krishna and Radha.
