This visualization is originally designed as a wall clock. The black bar on the perimeter is an acurate visual representation of how much oil is available to drill according to the American Petroleum Institute. The underside of the circle represents a scaled time of how long it took nature to produce the world's oil supplies. The top half represents in relative time how fast we are diminishing that same supply, by comparison of millions of years to hundreds of years. It is also a peak into the future of the worlds oil supply relative to our current rate of consumption versus the human population growth. It is to be read counter clock wise as the concept is a race against time coupled with the aesthetic of and automotive odometer, as the contemporary combustion engine needs oil to operate.
