PROPERTY INSPECTION CHECKLIST Things to look for when you are getting your property inspected You should always get a full property inspection by a qualified professional before buying or selling your property. However, there are a number of things that you can look for before employing an inspector to thoroughly go over the property that will give you a good idea of what needs to be done to get your property up to scratch. Make sure you check the exterior of the house for any obvious deterioration such as peeled or faded paint, rot or, in the case of a brick house, damaged brickwork. While large trees can create a nice atmosphere in your backyard, large trees that are close your house can be hazardous in storms. Ensure that no foul odours are emitted in to the house if the garage is adjacent Also check that the main garage door is in working order. Check all windows, walls and doors for any visible cracks. This could mean that the building has a shifting foundation. Look for obvious visible signs of termite damage. Knock on the walls, if they produce a hollow sound, a termite infestation may be present. Are the fences in good repair? If not they can be costly to replace.
