Prenatal DNA Testing

Prenatal DNATesting THE SCIENCE WHAT DNA TESTING CAN TELL YOU ABOUT YOUR CHILD BEFORE HE/SHE IS BORN? Did you know that dna from your baby is circulating in your blood stream and is also present in your urine? So what can dna testing tell you about your child before he or she is born? Carrying out non invasive prenatal testing can confirm the gender of the baby as well as the paternity of the biological father. These tests are carried out through urine and blood respectively and are all: SAFE QUICK ACCURATE Techniques Non-Invasive Prenatal Paternity Test Non-Invasive Prenatal Baby Gender Tešt Advantages Non invasive tests are a risk free and painless alternative to more traditional invasive tests such as amniocentesis. A simple blood or urine sample is all that is required. A prenatal paternity test can be performed as early as 10 weeks of pregnancy and only requires a maternal blood sample. A Gender test can be performed as early as 9 weeks and only requires a sample of urine. Timing Results Turnaround times vary between 5-10 working days depending on the test you require and the laboratory carrying out the analysis. Sensitivity Results are 99.9% accurate for blood analysis and 99% for urine analysis. Advantages over other Alternatives Risk Free and Safe Ultrasound A baby's gender can only be reliably determined at 18-20 weeks of pregnancy. the accuracy of an ultrasound is highly dependent on the position of the fetus and the judgment of the ultrasound technician. Amniocentesis This procedure, which can be carried out between 14-20 weeks, involves inserting a needle into the mother's abdnomen and extracting 20ml of amniotic fluid. it is considered invasive and can result in miscarriage (estimates vary between 1 in 200 and 1 in 500). Chorionic villus sampling (Cvs) This is an invasive technique which can be carried out between 10-12 weeks and involves collecting a sample of tissue from the placenta. like with amniocentesis, scientists can extract fetal dna from the sample and use it for paternity analysis. WHY NON INVASIVE TESTING 100% RISK FREE EARLY RESULT HIGHLY SENSITIVE Requiring only a sample of blood or urine from the mother. Can be carried out between 9-10 weeks of 99.9% accurate for paternity and 99% for gender. pregnancy.
