When? The next major update is predicted to happen within the next 12-18 months. What will it involve? The update will most likely involve an interactive social layer, where you can start to delete irrelevant results. Google may use these deletions to adjust accordingly. Sites that will flourish will be of a new model: paid membership sites that provide reviews without any incentive for users to purchase them. Affiliate marketing sites will see a huge decrease in rankings. In the Future, Google will become more transparent in revealing the changes they plan to make. + Local search results will show up more often. Quality will be judged by a piece of content's popularity with Tweets, Facebook Likes, Stumbles, etc. Fresh links and link velocity will become increasingly important. Google will index fewer pages, effectively building up a wall around the Google Garden of Eden.
