Did you know the portable toilet industry began in the 1940s in the shipyards of Long Beach, California? At the time, laborers working on the ships had to travel back to the dock each time they had to...
use the restroom. A shipbuilder who recognized this wasted effort asked the company in charge of the permanent toilets on the docks if they could make a toilet which could be temporarily put on the ship closer to the workers. Out of necessity, the portable toilet was born! Since its inception, the portable toilet has spread to the construction industry to revolutionize restroom use as we know it today on nearly every job site. For those in charge of portable toilets on the construction site, there are plenty of things to consider. First, the number of restrooms needed on a construction site is determined by the number of employees on the job. As a general rule, you should have one portable potty for every 10 workers. For every 10 additional workers, add another toilet. If there are 20 people on the construction site, there should be two port-a-potties. If there are 40 workers on site, there should be four portable toilets. For more on portable toilet rentals, refer to the infographic.
