Nearly 70% of accidents occur on publie playgrounds. 15 child fatalities pccur from playground equipment each year. 792 of ALL 1 playground i injuries involve falls. Children ages s to 9 are the most at-risk group. - FACT: 45% of playground related injuries are SEVERE. The following equipment is responsible for the most injuries: Climbers Swings Slides Monkey Bars 23%22% 17% 9% LEARN How TO Prevent Playground Injuries Always supervise playtime -Kids under 5 should be supervised at all times. Dress children appropriately for playtime -loose clothing and drawstrings are hazards. Choose age-appropriate play equipment -older and younger children should play in separate areas. Ensure playground surfaces are safe -Sand, wood chips, pea gravel and synthetic rubber are best. BLACKTOPS & CONCRETE ARE NOT RECOMMENDED. Only visit well-maintained playgrounds -Look out for shanp points or edges in equipment. Inspection is key -All playground equipment should be inspected and maintained regularly.
