PIC (D) EVOLUTION HOW THE CAMERA EYE HAS COME FULL CIRCLE The ever-so-popular digital camera is the end product of century's worth of evolution; from primitive pinholes, and the astonishingly early advent of color photography, to the high-tech 35mm cameras of the 20th century, which are now all but obsolete. Digital cameras are now a standard feature in cell phones, sparking the shutter-bug in us all, yet they have returned to their original form despite decades of evolving. See how the consumer pic has unintentionally returned to its birth place. Brought to you by "Photo Book - created in 2 minutes" app. %3D 5. THE BROWNIE CAMERA - 1900 6. SINGLE LENS REFLEX CAMERA - MID 20TH CENTURY Kodak released "Brownie" cameras made from the turn of the century until the 1960's. They were designed to be affordable cameras (originally $1) for bringing photography to the masses. The SLR(Single Lens Reflect) principle wasn't applied to cameras until the late 19th Century, when the creation of 35mm film came about. SLR became a preferred camera in the 1960's. DAGUERREOTYPE - 1837 7. POLAROID FILM - 1948 The first commercial photographic process used mirror-finished silver-coated plates, developed with mercury vapor. It can take about 3 hours to expose and produce a Daguerreotype image. Polaroid created film that consists of a "sandwich" of chemicals and papers, which can self-develop in a few minutes. 3. CAMERA OBSCURA - CIRA 1015 C.E. DIGITAL CAMERAS - 1988 The light-focusing "pinhole" effect was utilized in the Camera Obscura (Latin for "dark room"). Camera Obscura produces a projected illustration, there is no developing process. With the invention of electronic image sensors capable of recording millions of pixels, a digital camera became possible. These can be printed instantly via computer, or by a photo developer. NOW THEN THE PINHOLE CAMERA - SINCE ANTIQUITY CAMERAS IN CELL PHONES - PRESENT DAY When light passes through a small aperture, it can project an inverted image. A new image sensor for cell phones can capture high quality still images, now up to 9 megapixels resolution, and video at full high definition (HD) 1080p at 30 frames per second. I. THE EYE-530 MILLION YEARS AGO 10. CELL PHONE APPLICATIONS Nature's camera first evolved during the Cambrian Era. The human eye focuses light through a lens onto a sensitive retina. Cameras in cell phones are ever-evolving, and with the development of photo-editing applications, photography has come full circle. "Filters"can be added that imitate the style of vintage film technology. PHOTO BOOK -CREATED IN 2 MINUTES lets users create a dazzling, professional-quality photo book in just five clicks - or about two B minutes with their iPhone or iPad. Users simply choose from among five designs, select the photo book's recipient from their address book, and once complete their unique photo book ships.
