Generally Obsessive Behaviors Deficits in Social Skills Possible Speech Delays or Irregularities Autism Autism is currently divided into 3 groups: 1- Autism 2- Asperger Syndrome 3- PDD-NOS ( Pervasive Development Disorder, Not Otherwise Specified ) Reports of Autism cases per 1,000 Children 1999 2003 rate 2005 1,148% growth 2007 2011 More children affected by Autism than diabetes, AIDS, cancer, cérebral palsy, cystic fibrosiime combined. Down ,muscular dystrophy and 2013 annual 10-17% growth Boys are 4 times more likely to have Autism than Girls IIII | Lifetime cost of care of an individual with Autism $3.2 Million! What's causing this increase? Some believe genetics, some believe environment. The Reality = probably some of both (studies remain inconclusive) Early Signs Autism cannot be defected through a blood test, brain scan, or any kind of genetic testing. abc Lack of or delay in Spoken language Obsession with an object or interest Little or no eye contact Lack of interest in rejationships Obsession with an object or interest No Spontaneous play Doesn't smile back Doesn't play with other children Over- stimulated by lights, sounds and crowds 40% of children with Autism have been bullied at scho0| 50% kept out of local schools which may actually hinder their social developMent April World Autism Äwareness Month Benefits of Early Intervention • Early intervention is Critical.
