LYMPIC EVOLUTION Summer Games Mapping the Participants of the Modern Olympic Games From 776 BC to 393 AD, the Olympics were held in Ancient Greece in honor of Zeus. Atheles representing various city states would compete for glory. After a hiatus of over 1,500 years, the games were revived in 1896 AD, marking the beginning of the Modern Olympic Games as we know them.
