The NFL Is A Very Profitable Nonprofit

The NFL Is A Very Profitable Nonprofit Maybe rowdy football fans can be somewhat forgiven for rumbling around NFL stadiums like they own the places. After all, the overwhelming majority of NFL stadia have been built with some taxpayer money. The history of the owners of NFL teams taking handouts for state-of-the-art football palaces is all the more noteworthy when compared to the amount of money that the sport generates. The NFL's total annual revenue in 2012 was $9.5 billion. Thanks to the league office's status as a nonprofit trade organization some of that money is even exempt from taxation.
