New FAMILY STRUCTURES Driven by economic hardships, a growing mistrust of institutions, digital connectivity and the ready availability of information, we are witnessing a positive shift in perception and acceptance of novel social units such as co-parenting and multi-generational households. MANCESSION/DADS TAKING CHARGE More dads than ever are trading their briefcases for burp cloths, staying home and tending to children while their spouses head to work. 82% ---.....---.. Dads vs Daycare While their mothers are at work, 1-in-5 preschoolers are cared for by their fathers for more hours than by Stay-at-home dads equally share child-care responsibilities any other child-care provider. Job Loss by Numbers In the recent recession, three times as many men lost their jobs as women. $$ Cooking Since 1970, men have tripled the time they spend cooking, while women have cut back dramatically. Willingness to Stay Home In a 2011 survey by the Boston College Center for Work and Family, more than 50 percent of fathers said they would be willing to stay home with the kids if their spouse earned enough to do so comfortably. While they say they're happy to be home caring for their kids – 70% reported being proud to be the parent in charge - stay-at-home dads also feel isolated because parenting resources tend to be geared toward moms. MULTI-GENERATIONAL HOUSEHOLDS A growing number of adult children are becoming roommates with mom and dad, or vice versa, to help ease financial pains in tough economic times.
