Moms Matter: We Can Save More Moms in the Developing World

MOMS MATTER We can save more moms in the developing world. In the developing world, 800 women die every day because they cannot access adequate maternal health services. Many countries have focused on getting doctors to administer life-saving drugs to women, but there's just one problem. THERE AREN'T ENOUGH DOCTORS TO REACH ALL THE MOMS WHO NEED THEM ZAMBIA: TOGO: MALI: .7 PHYSICIANS PER 10,000 PEOPLE .5 PHYSICIANS PER 10,000 PEOPLE .8 PHYSICIANS PER 10,000 PEOPLE Instead of requiring only highly skilled medical staff to administer drugs, allowing midwives, volunteers, and community health workers to administer life-saving medications has led to substantial decreases in maternal mortality. Allowing more healthcare workers to administer these drugs doesn't reduce the quality of the services, but it does SAVE LIVES PAI is working with partners in three countries – Mali, Togo, and Zambia – to help make this shift.
