Modal Triangle

densíty Modal triangle design-LAB Before being a love story Jules and Jim is a narration, and, in particular the narration of a triangle. Watching the film I have seen the emergence of three Colors represent in a connotative way the three kinds, active (red) and passive (blue), and then reflectivity (purple) as a synthesis of the other two. modalities from the Greimas' narrative canonical schema: competence, performance and sanction. I have noticed how these modalities will develop in the film in a complementary way into the three characters, producing plane dominances. In this perspective it raises a characterization of the agents, in an axis running from a subject fully “modalized", "active" (Cathrine) to a subject to "de-modalized", "passive" (Jules), passing through a "reflective" subject (Jim). The film has been divided horizontally into four moments for every character: the friendship of Jules and Jim, the arrive of Cathrine, the war, after war. The 3D model highlights in the film the development rate of the three modalities in each character. The representation is therefore not designed to identify the characters but their mutual relationship towards the others and towards history itself.
