as created an interactive, clickable infographic entitled “Mental Illness in America”, illustrating just how prevalent mental illness is on the state level.
When it comes to state-wide spending on mental illness, states such as Texas, Florida, and Idaho shell out the least. States along the eastern seaboard, along with Arizona and Alaska, spend the most to get the care to those who need it.
Alcoholism is another factor in the mental illness picture, and Colorado, along with Washington D.C. top the list. The southern United States, as a region, has the lowest numbers of alcoholism. With drug addiction hot on Alcoholism’s heels, states such as Oregon, Washington D.C., and Vermont suffer the highest drug addiction numbers, states such as South Dakota, Texas, and Wisconsin have the least.
Depression and suicide are also listed in this infographic, with some very surprising results.
Serious mental illness has sufferers across the nation, however, West Virginia and Oklahoma have the highest number of diagnosed sufferers. While 18.19 percent of the nation suffers from a mental illness, these two states still top the charts for the most per capita.
