MEDICARE ENROLLMENT THERE ARE A FEW DIFFERENT TIME PERIODS THAT YOU CAN SIGN UP FOR MEDICARE ADVANTAGE & MEDICARE SUPPLEMENT HAPPY 65TA BIRTHDAY! 1 MONTH 3 MONTHS BEFORE THE MONTH YOU TURN 65 2 MONTHS BEFORE THE MONTH YOU 1 MONTH BEFORE THE MONTH YOU TURN 65 2 MONTHS AFTER THE MONTH YOU TURN 65 3 MONTHS AFTER THE ΜΟΝTΗ YOυ TURN 65 THE MONTH YOU TURN 65 AFTER THE MONTH YOU TURN 65 TURN 65 If you want to start Part A and/or Part B the month you turn 65, you have to sign up during the first 3 months before you turn 65. If you wait until the last 4 months of this enrollment period, your coverage will be delayed. For example, if you sign up during the month you turn 65, coverage will start the beginning of the next month. During this seven month period you can enroll in Medicare Advantage and Medicare Part D. Medicare Advantage, also known as Part C, provides Part A and Part B benefits. There is a 6 month period to enroll in Medigap once you turn 65. You can enroll the month you turn 65 and you must be covered by Medicare Part B. MEDICARE OPEN ENROLLMENT OCTOBER 1 Start comparing your Medicare plan options. OCTOBER 15 OCTOBER 15 Change, switch, drop or join a Medicare Advantage plan or a Medicare Advantage plan with prescription drug coverage. DECEMBER 7 JANUARY 1 Coverage begins for Medicare Advantage. JANUARY 1 Drop your Medicare Advantage plan and switch to Original Medicare, or switch to Original Medicare and a Medicare Part D plan. -TO- FEBRUARY 14 ---------* SPECIAL ENROLLMENT PERIODS There are life changing circumstances in which the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) can determine whether or not you qualify for a Special Enrollment Period (SEP). During a SEP you can switch Medicare Advantage and Medicare Part D plans. Some examples of Special Enrollment Periods are below. You can switch to a Medicare Advantage Plan or Medicare Prescription Drug Plan that has a 5-star rating at any time during the year. But you can only use this special enrollment period one time a year. You move to a new area that is not in your plan's service area or move to an area with new plan options. You move to the U.S. after living in another country. You are released from jail. You moved into, live in or moved out of instituional care skilled nursing or long term care hospital.
