Back in 2003, Sid Lerner & John Hopkins University started a trend named “Meatless Monday”. www.northwestpharmacy.com has created an infographic entitled “Meatless Monday”, detailing the impac...
t of “Meatless Monday”, and how cutting meat out of your diet for one day a week may help your health.
“Meatless Monday” has gained incredible traction, and today, over 30 countries participate in the once-weekly meat fast. By avoiding meat one day a week, you can cut your saturated fat intake by 15%. This is some amazing news, since meat consumption has doubled since 1900, and protein consumption is typically 1.5 times the recommended amount. If we continue on this path, food production must double to meet demands.
An excess of meat consumption is linked to heart disease, cancer, stroke, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and much more. As “Meatless Monday” is gaining traction, meat consumption has decreased. In 2007, a total of 28 billion pounds of meat was consumed. In 2012, meat consumption fell to 25.8 billion pounds.
No matter why you decide to kick meat out of your diet for at least one day a week, the health benefits are tremendous.
