World Heart Day 2011 theme is "One World, One Home, One Heart". The day's message is that 80% of premature deaths from heart disease could be avoided if individuals made lifestyle changes and took control of the three principal risk factors for heart disease - smoking, unhealthy eating, and physical inactivity. The familiar starting point for making these changes is the home.
Thus, this year the organisers of World Heart Day, the World Heart Federation, are taking the home as their focal point for healthy habits - both to reduce the individual risk of heart disease and establish lifestyle habits which have a lasting impact on the whole family.
The ESC is also playing a part by releasing an infographic "Love your heart, stay healthy" to visually illustrate the three principal risk factors and encourage healthy lifestyle choices.
