“When a man is tired of London, he is tired of life.” So said eighteenth-century author Samuel Johnson, and here at infogr8, we struggle to disagree.
So, in honour of our hometown, we decided to produce an infographic highlighting some illuminating and potentially surprising facts about the city that played host the 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games.
Take the archetypal London Black Taxi, for example. Recognisable all over the world, but did you know that there are more than 20,000 licensed taxis working in the city, with around 12,000 working at any one time.
And who would have thought that the London’s first fish and chip shop would come along a whole half a century after the first Indian restaurant? Or that the total length of the London Underground is the same distance that could take you all the way to Brussels? (with some to spare!) Well dive in and take a look – you might find out even more surprising stats. (Even the perennially grey London weather comes across pretty well!)
With a Union Jack-inspired colour scheme, world-recognised buildings and sights and plenty of interesting facts and figures, you’ll see London in a whole new light.
