KENYA at the OLYMPICS Philip Boit becomes the first to represent Kenya in the Winter Olympic Games. Compeling in Cross Country Skiing he finishes 92nd and last in the 10km Classic. The medal ceremony is delayed as winner of the race - Norwegian Bjorn Deahile waits for Boit to finish; Boit Jater names his first son Daehile. Boit represents Kenya again in the 2002 and 2006 Winter Games for the Sprint Race and 15km Classic, respectively. B* After a 12 year absence, Kenya returns to the Olympic Games winning 3 medals, 2 in Athletics and 1 in Boxing. Kenya sweeps the Mens 3000M Steeple Chase with GOLD, SILVER and BRONZE. SALT LARE CTY, OSA 2002 Catherine Ndereba wins SILVER in the Women's marathon. NAGANO, JAPAN TORINO, ITALY 1998 2006 1963 Kipchoge Keino, Naftali Temu and Amos Biwott win Kenya's first GOLD medals. Wangila's GOLD remains as 44 years after the first delegation in 1956, 56 Kenyans go back to the country where they first participated in the Olympics - for the Games of the XXVII Olympiad- also known as the Millenial Games. Kenya wins 5 GOLD medals but a 6th GOLD is later awarded to Asbel Kiprop (Mens 1500m) when initial winner shid Ramzi is stripped of his medal after testing Samuel Wanjiru positive for doping. B* Boxer Philip Waruinge wins a BRONZE medal in boxing and is awarded the Val Barker Trophy for Most Outstanding Pauline Konga becomes the first Kenyan woman to win a medal - a SILVER medal in 1ST 16TH 1ST the Women's 5.000 metres. Kenya sends first delegation of 25 participants to the Games of the XVI Olympiad in Melbourne, Australia - competing in athletics, hockey, shooting and swimming. Wilson Kiprugut wins Kenya's first medal - BRONZE in the Mens 500m. Kenya wins GOLD in the 4x400m Relay. Kenya's first the only medal Kenya has won outside of Athletics. Anuj Desai is Kenya's oldest sportsman to compete in the Games at 45 yrs and 172 days, participating in Shooting. breaks the Olympic record for the Men's Marathon setting a time of 2hrs 6mins 32secs Boxer Kenya's Womens Volleyball team- African champions at the time - participate in the Games for the first time. and only reļay medal.
