Android has outpaced iOS (iPhone & iPad) as the most popular mobile platform—and it did so rather quickly.
When you take a close look at the numbers however, you find that having significant market...
share doesn't necessarily equate to profitability.
In this infographic we take a look at the 2013-2014 holiday season and learn that, although Android devices dwarf those of iOS in quantity, Android users aren't willing to make purchases on their phones. In fact, iOS users were 5 times as likely to make a purchase.
The unavoidable conclusion here is that Apple has control over that part of the market that is fiscally comfortable with buying things: no doubt this is a profitable fact for them, as it isn't a far stretch to assume that they also experience high purchases for other Apple products, iTunes store downloads and App store downloads.
