(MarketWatch) – The Dow Theory – the oldest market timing system still in widespread use today – remains on a "buy" signal. This does not automatically mean that happy days are here again, however. By its very design, the Dow Theory will never catch the exact market top. On the contrary, the market potentially can be a lot lower than its previous high when this market timing system eventually generates a sell signal. In the meantime, because the Dow Theory presumes that the last confirmed signal remains in force until it is reversed, it counsels patience.
