HUMANITY Women & the Economy OWERING THE BEUING EMPOWERING FOR ACTION TURNS 20 Domestic Workers are among the most vulnerable groups in the global workforce, facing a number of human rights abuses and labour rights violations ranging from deplorable working conditions and unequal pay to sexual violence. Barriers Worldwide oo What are legal differences? This includes barriers women face that restrict their full economic potential. Some of the many examples are... Owning, using & inheriting property Obtaining an ID card or passport Having access to maternity & paternity leave Opening bank accounts & accessing credit Countries out of 143 evaluated with at least one legal difference restricting women's economic opportunities Earning equal pay with men for work of comparable worth Accessing justice for domestic violence & sexual harassment 128 number of economies where husbands can object to their wives working and prevent them from accepting jobs. number of economies with 28 10 or more legal differences 5 restricting women's economic opportunities. Hold on! What? These are interesting points. But the fact is barriers don't just end at legal differences. You're right. Social norms and how women are perceived have an impact. Exactly! There's more. Natural disasters, economic crises, poverty, early marriage, violence against women and girls, limited access to education, justice and healthcare are just some of the many barriers. The list goes on... Until we address all barriers, women's full potential cannot be realized. We must work together to overcome them. Yes! Empowering women - Empowering humanity. Picture it!
