Inflammatory Breast Cancer Inflammatory breast cancer is a rare and aggressive form of the disease. It is called "inflammatory" because the breast tissue can likely appear swollen and red, or "inflamed". Symptoms 1. Pain in the breast 2. Itching of the breast 3. Reddened area with texture resembling the peel of an orange 4. Skin changes on breast 5. Thickness, heaviness or visible enlargement of one breast 6. Flattening or turning inward of the nipple 7. Unusual warmth of the affected breast Diagnosis and Treatment 1. Biopsy 2. Mammography 3. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) 1. Surgery of the Breast 2. Chemo Therapy 3. Radiation Therapy Staging of Cancer IV Stage IIIA - less than one complete breast is affected Stage IIIB - the whole breast is affected, might have spread to issues near the breast, such as the skin or chest wall, including the ribs and muscles in the chest. III B Stage IV means that the cancer has spread to other organs. These can include the bones, lungs, liver, and/or brain, as well as the lymph nodes in the necks.
