Pundits and politicos sometimes confuse or conflate the two major voter categories that make up the center of the electorate. But Independents and moderates are distinct groups with diverging opinions on several fundamental issues. And while there are significant similarities and philosophical overlap, understanding these distinctions between these election-deciding groups may be the key to winning in 2012.
