On a global scale for the environment and the economy food waste is very expensive. In UK more than 10 billion pound are being paid every year for food, that doesn’t get consumed and becomes waste. ...
The biggest part of that unnecessary waste belong to the households, instead of the common believe that food processing factories waste a lot. As much as the food waste may be the result of various reasons, of the greatest importance is that most of it can be avoided.
Scientists have been searching constantly for ways to improve waste recycling. More to the point scientific researches on how to turn green waste into energy are getting more common. In the food management field one of the latest findings is that tomato waste can prove to be a great energy source. The infographic starts by describing the quantity of tomatoes thrown away whole. That would be over 1 billion tomatoes going to waste untouched every year in UK. Their weight is about 52 500 tons and worth 121 million pounds. It turns out that with that tomato waste can be powered Disney World for half a month. And these are only the tomatoes that go to waste whole. Imagine!
