How to make a skirt (without a tape measure)

HOW TO MAKE A SKIRT without a tape measure This simple skirt is easy to make and looks great! It's a fantastie prgjet for beginners er anyone ouifit who wants a new hurry. in a YOU WILL NEED One square metre of fabric, scissors, pins, two safety pins, a needle and thread, and a piece of one-inch thick elastic that reaches round your waist. 1 Iron your material. This sounds boring but it means you can wear your fab-looking skirt straight after it's finished. Fold your fabric in half midway along its length and iron the crease. Cut the material at the crease, so you have two pieces. Pin together a width from each piece of fabric. If your material has a pattern, make sure it is facing the right direction on each bit. Now sew the pieces together into one long length of fabric. Remember to backstitch at both ends and to iron your seam. Note: As this skirt is gathered, one metre of fabric will fit lots of sizes. If you're at all worried or want more gathering, just use a longer bit of material. 2. Zigzag stitch along the top length of your fabric. This is the end that will get the most wear, as it will be next to your body, so this will help to stop any fraying. Make a hem along the bottom of your fabric. Turn the bottom edge up a couple of centimetres, pin it in place and then sew. Pin together the two loose short ends of fabric and sew to secure one large loop of material. Line your elastic along part of the top of your skirt. Now fold the material over to create a casing that's big enough to hold your elastic flat, then pin the fabric in place. As your elastic is shorter than the width of your skirt fabric, fold and pin your casing in a few steps. Leave a 10-centimetre gap between the ends of the casing. Next, remove the elastic and sew your waistband into place. Put safety pins through both ends of your elastic, and then pin one end to the start of the gap in the waistband of your skirt. Carefully thread your loose end of elastic through the casing, gathering the material as you go. Úsing the safety pin as a guide will help you to do this easily. Now that both ends of elastic are on the outside of the casing, you should sew them together. And then sew the gap in the waistband of your skirt closed. Even out the gathering and your skirt is ready to wear! Blinds Supermarket Kate Williams
