How to Keep your Employees Happy and Productive

HOW TO KEEP YOUR EMPLOYEES ANDPRODUCTIVE HAPPY EMPLOYEE SATISFACTION SURVEY This can be done anonymously and voluntarily. Invite your employees to share what the like and dislike about their jobs and their work environment. Pay attention to the survey results. There might be some things you cannot do anything about right now, such as providing raises or better benefits. However, pay attention to the things that will cost nothing, such as a dress code that includes casual Fridays. PRODUCTIVE ATMOSPHERE Make sure the environment has live green plants. Workers who are near plants or windows report significantly higher job, boss and co-worker satisfaction than those without. They also report being happier. Utilize real sunlight when possible. If offices or work spaces don't have window access, install full spectrum or plant light bulbs in all fixtures, including overhead florescent lights. HOLD REGULAR REVIEWS Even if a salary increase only comes annually, supervisors and managers should provide performance reviews at least every few months. Praise the staff who are doing well. Hearing they are doing good work will motivate your best employees and keep them happy. GREAT! PERKS MATTER (NOT AS MUCH) Some companies offer concert or sports tickets to their employees. Others hold drawings for restaurant gift cards - but, like money, these things tend to be less powerful motivators for workers than in-job challenges and the feeling of being a valuable part of a quality team that will recognize their contribution. A manager needs to understand that though those perks are great and release burdens from employees' shoulders, they are not a substitute for prime sources of professional inspiration. KEEP THEM HAPPY;KEEP THEM WORKING When workers feel that they are a dynamic and essential part of the team, they are more productive and willing to go the extra mile for their customers and co- workers. Therefore, give praise openly, set goals appropriate to the work and always take your employees' needs seriously. By respecting and listening to your staff, you'll be giving them the motivational push they need to stay loyal and committed to the company's goals.
