How to Grip a Skateboard Deck Grip tape is a material that is applied to the top surface of a skateboard deck. The rough texture of grip tape helps the skateboarder's feet stay attached to the board. Putting grip tape on yourself is a lot easier than it can seem. To start out, you'll need the following gear: A skateboard deck A new sheet of grip tape A razor blade A screwdriver How it's done: Remove the adhesive backing from the sheet of grip tape and carefully place the grip tape onto the skate deck Pat down the board to remove any air bubbles that may have occurred while you were placing the grip tape on the board Use the side of an old screwdriver to rub down the edges of the deck. The more you do this, the easier the grip tape will be to cut Use your razor blade to carefully cut along the line you created with the screwdriver in the previous step. ueboo Use your screwdriver to rub down the rails of the board once more. This will help ensure that the grip tape doesn't chip or get torn up once you start skating your board.
