These are the basic principles that most companys abide by. Learning from the habits of big brands is absolutely OK. Stealing directly from them is not. Using clichéd, over-used ideas is not. This means not using images such as globes for 'international' or a light bulb for 'ideas'. It must be simple. It must be memorable. It must be enduring. It must be versatile. Be the brand It must be appropriate. Spend lots of time compiling information on the brand. Immerse yourself completely. You need to know what the business does, what the demographic is and who the logo is representing. Do your research Look at previous logos to get an idea of direction. Compile a checklist of do's and don'ts before you even start sketching. Learn how the audience will interpret the logo design. Get feedback. Create a mood board.
