How to Choose an Air Filter for your Home

How to Choose an Air Filter for Your Home Air filters are the number one reason why most HVAC systems fail. Not all air filters are created equally. See which kind is best for your HVAC system. Pleated Filters • About $20 per filter. Tight weave can cause drag in your system. Allergy Reduction Filters Only pick up particles kicked into air returns – don't actively purify the air in the entire home. You may see a slight reduction in allergens, but don't expect to be allergy-free. Washable Filters Wash and dry them carefully; risk of mold and fungus spores that can grow in damp filters. • More expensive than disposables, and don't pull as many particles from the air as fiberglass. Fiberglass Mat Filters • Inexpensive and they work very well in most systems. Keep damaging dirt and debris out of your system, and air to flow freely.
