Staff, hot weather and Personal Protective Equipment When the weather's hot, PPE (personal protective equipment) can cause thermal stress if it doesn't allow sweat to evaporate. To prevent illness in your workforce, the HSE recommends the following: Permit work to occur at a 1 slower rate Rotate staff out of this environment on a more 2 frequent basis Allow longer recovery times before permitting re-entry Consider scheduling work to 4 cooler times of the day Periodically revisit your risk assessment to consider if the process could be automated or alternative systems of work/controls can be introduced Re-evaluate your PPE as newer equipment may be lighter and provide improved levels of (6 protection and operator comfort WORLIFTS www.worlifts.co.uk
