VIDEO GAMES: A BRIEF HISTORY 1958 Willy Higinbotham Physicist Willy Higinbotham invents what is considered to be the first video game, a table-tennis type game called Tennis for Two. 1975 Pong The legendary game Pong is released and is the best-selling Christmas gift. 1986 Nintendo introduces Nintendo NES vs. SEGA Entertainment System (NES), while Sega introduces the Sega Master System (SMS) to compete. -00 SELA 1989 Game Boy Nintendo debuts hand-held gaming device Game Boy. 2000 The Sims Computer game The Sims is released and becomes best-selling PC game by 2002. 2006 Nintendo Wii Nintendo introduces the Wii, a highly interactive gaming system with motion-activated controller functions. 2008 GTA IV Grand Theft Auto 4 breaks sales records within its first week on the market, selling over 6 million copies. eLearners.com
