They became synonymous with the beginning of rock n roll. 1950s Skinny jeans became synonymous with sexuality & sex appeal and a certain 'bad boy image. 1960s Skinny jeans became synonymous with the mod style, as well as iconic bands such as the Rolling Stones and The Beatles. They became popular with ordinary people too. In the 1970s, glam rock and rockabilly groups wore skinny jeans contrasting with the flared trousers worn by hippies. Red tartan jeans were popular in the punk subculture of the late 1970s 1970s 1980s The 1980s savw the rise of glam rock, which helped to sustain the skinny jeans fashion well into the decade. By the 1980s, straight leg jeans and levis were beginning to supersede drainpipes.
