HISTORY OF THE НOMDIE 1919 Champion Products, which began as the Knicker- bocker Knitting Company in 1919, claims to have made the first hooded sweatshirt. 1930 The birth of the Modern Hoodie took place in the US in the 1930's and was predominantly worn by workers & labourers working in cold temperatures. 1940 Sportswear companies like Russell Athletic supplied hoodies to High School Athletes that were exposed to cold weather during long training sessions. 1950 The humble Hoodie started to rise in popularity and became more trendy. This was caused by Athletes giving their Girlfriend's their Hoodies to wear. 1960 The 60s marked the boom of wearing university names UNI on Sweatshirts and Hoodies, with names like Grand Valley State University becoming a common sight. 1970 Hoodies are synonymous with the rise of Hip-Hop and Graffiti Culture in New York while the media helps push the popularity and fashion factor of Hoodies even higher! 1980 With many Skate Parks closures, the trendy Skateboarders had to adapt and skate wherever possible, the Hoodie was a convenient way of masking your identity when boarding. 2000 - 2012 Schools and Nightclubs start banning hoodies based on stigma and stereotypes surrounding the garment. TODAY Overcoming the issues and standing the test of time, Hoodies are widely considered to be trendy, cool, versatile, comfortable and feature in Music Videos, Hollywood Films, Tech & Startup Businesses, Extreme Sports Enthusiasts and many more customising their hoodies.
