THE HISTORY Suits I'm in Coupons HANDOUT 17th century - King Charles II established the simplified, sartorial standard of dress from which the modern lounge suit traces its origin. In 1666 King Charles II decreed a dressing code that in the English Court men would wear a long coat, a waistcoat, a cravat, a wig, knee breeches, and a hat. 19th century - British dandy Beau Brummell redefined and popularized the style which influenced the modern era of men's clothing to include the modern suit and necktie. Early Victorian era – frock coat became popular and the standard daily clothing for men. During the Edwardian era in early 20th century, frock coats had a steady decline giving rise to the then informal morning coat which later became acceptable for businessmen. From the 194O's there was a continuing trend to simplify and modernize the suit which contributed to the large reduction of popularity of many cuts. www.imin.com
