The History Of The Bledisloe Cup

THE BLEDISLOE CUP THE BEGINNING The Bledisloe Cup is contested by the New Zealand national rugby union team and Australia national rugby union team. It's named after Lord Bledisloe, former Governor-General of New Zealand who donated the trophy in 1931 to foster ties between the two countries. Once played irregularly every few years, The Bledisloe Cup matches now happen annually and have been played outside of New Zealand and Australia, in Hong Kong and Japan in recent years THE TWO NATIONS HEAD TO HEAD BLEDISLOE CUP WINNERS BLEDISLOE CUP WINNERS 40 O 12 MATCH WINS MATCH WINS 87 O34 19 5 TRIES SCORED TRIES SCORED 314 O 196 MATCH POINTS MATCH POINTS 2574 O 1793 CONVERSIONS CONVERSIONS H 187 O 113 L PENALTY POINTS PENALTY POINTS O 280 O 237 0 DROP GOALS DROP GOALS * 27 O 16 THE NEW ZEALAND VENUES Six venues in New Zealand have played host to The Bledisloe Cup test matches.
