HIRING A NANNY IS RIGHT FOR YOU A nanny is responsible for the complete care of the employer's children, their duties include: Meal planning and preparation for the children Tending to each child's basic physical needs Laundering and caring for clothing belonging to the children Organizing play activities and outings Setting behavioral guidelines Providing discipline when appropriate Providing social and intellectual stimulation Providing transportation Housekeeping, when related to the children Traveling with the family. 7 TYPES OF NANNIES Professional Nanny Has at least five years childcare experience being a "Nanny". 1 Professional nannies even consider some training in child development or education. Temporary Nanny The professional nanny will have a great deal of experience. A nanny who works for a family 6 months or less. Temporary nannies may be called on for any type of service including babysitting. Permanent Nanny A nanny who works for a family 7 months or more. Babysitter or Sitter A nanny who works for flexible working hours. Overnight Nanny An overnight nanny begins her work time in the evening and spends the night so the parents are assured uninterrupted sleeping hours. Live In Nanny A live in nanny provides care for your children and handles all child care related chores, including laundry, meal preparation and picking up children's areas. Live Out Nanny Has responsibilities similar to a live in nanny but has own domicile. NANNIES SHOULD HAVE ONE OR MORE OF THE FOLLOWING IN THEIR BACKGROUND Extensive babysitting and/or daycare experience. A degree in early childhood education or elementary education and the desire to work one on one with children. Extensive experience working with children, perhaps as a teacher, psychologist or nurse and a desire to use their specialized skills working one on one with a child in a private residence. THE INTERNATIONAL NANNY ASSOCIATION HAS ADOPTED THE FOLLOWING BASIC STANDARDS FOR NANNIES nanny must be at least 18 years of age. A nanny must have completed high school (or the equivalent).
